This thing caught my eye and it's been months now. I'm one of the people who had their first hands on the device as soon as it released, so thought it might be something important to keep an eye on. And also want to touch base on how I use this is as a tool.

The rabbit r1.

PC - WIRED

Why is this cool?

I think it is cool (looks wise), despite all the negative reviews the world of mainstream media gave. I think I know a couple ways to make it cool functionality wise.

Why is this being criticized by the mainstream media?

I personally think of two reasons

  1. The company didn't deliver what they showed on the stage. SCAM?

  2. The media is somehow being controlled, and are made to review this thing as a disaster ( I know I'm not making much sense, but something to consider)

Did they scam people?

I think so, they did it with a hope that people will forgive them and they can repay them with lot of updates.

And are the updates being real? Oh yeah they're. R1 is sure evolving into something but not in the direction they mentioned about it. Lot of things have been updated lately and it's like they've been doing things behind the scenes which they thought wouldn't make sense by telling it in front of public, cuz they think the consumers just don't care about it right now.

Anyways, the main aim of technology right now is shoving unimportant things in the faces of consumers. So this might be one of it too.

But, this weird AI assistant is taking care of secondary things that we would want an assistant to do and missing out on the primary things like setting an alarm, calling someone, making a reminder etc., Which significantly reduces the importance of an assistant.

AI assitants like Claude and GPTs are so convinent to use as it exists in our ecosystem of workflow, and 75% people use these tools to generate Email bodies, ideas, content and strategies to copy it their own workflow in some case. Here the rabbit r1 misses out the opportunity to copy paste things as it gets saved in a seperate web based portal called "rabbithole".

Imagine using a handheld device, asking a query and then going to another portal to copy paste the content if it's relevant, if not again talking the device into hand and asking it to refine it more and back and forth. It's a hassle. I sometimes feel like the makers of rabbit r1, got a thought when they're bathing and decided to do it cuz it sounded cool and they had money.

Everyone of us get such random thoughts of taking over the world with our coolest projects, and think we'll be Elon someday, and then the thought dies cuz of two reasons, one, your thought and product is like rabbit r1 and you don't have money.

So not all thoughts are meant to be out in the world.

Things like magic camera. Which is not something I can be productive with, may be I can if I want to generate images for my graphic design work, other than that, it'll be a play feature in a 200$ device.

How I use it?

I hope many of us have heard about the second brain system or a digital system to dump our thoughts, new things that we learn as we study, research about anything. A part of life is all about erudition.

So what I do is when ever I'm reading something or researching, I ask the rabbit it's depth understanding on that topic and ask it to save it to the rabbithole, which becomes like a library of knowledge, a system to remember, reflect back on things that I've been working on. Along side I want to mention that Logseq which is my PKMS.

For example, I've been studying on "cymantics" recently and here's an example of how you can use the rabbit for it.

and every query gets saved into the rabbit hole. It can be better a lot better and the UI can be enhanced more too.

I know it's like finding a purpose of use just cuz you bought a device that looks cool. But I have a feeling that with proper direction of updates and enhancements, the Rabbit R1 can be a significant device.

Thanks for spending your valuable time to read it.
