Quick intro - The topic of discussion is about the gods. Do they really exist? or else are we just fooling ourselves? or we just misunderstood this entire god's concept!
(Quick intro is for the people who are busy, but want to have a glimpse of the topic of discussion, or else feel free to continue.)

Before we start, let's have an insight into a short story that happened in the mid-1900s during WWII. The allied forces landed on a remote island somewhere between New Caledonia and Fiji called Tanna, an isolated 40k-long, 19km-wide island in the archipelago country of Vanuatu.
During World War II, as the Pacific Ocean became a theatre of war between the Allies and Japan, Vanuatu’s archipelago was inhabited by thousands of US servicemen. To the secluded islanders, their encounters with great, big flying planes that came out of the sky, bringing mysterious modern treasures and amenities with them, would have seemed no less superhuman than witnessing a man walk on water, swim across oceans, or appear with a glowing halo around his head.

I looked, and there were soldiers everywhere. We didn’t know where they’d come from," said one villager speaking in a 1991 BBC documentary, The Fantastic Invasion. "They arrived night after night, and people woke up astonished."
The forces provided most of their resources to the villagers and even shared their knowledge and technology. It was all unknown to the villagers, yet they lived in such harmony until the US soldiers withdrew from their island in the 1940s.
Since then, it has been said that on a tiny island in the South Pacific, natives celebrate the annual rituals every year to welcome a mysterious messiah (the US soldiers), who are expected to return on February 15th. In this remote corner of the world, every year the islanders await the return of a World War II American G.I. who goes by the name of "John Frum"—the unlikely deity of one of the planet’s most remote and unique religious cults.

They began to worship these allied forces as gods and deities, and they even built tech gadgets and plane modules out of grass and wood to look like the ones the forces had. which is unusual in my opinion, but from their point of view, they met with someone who looked like humans who landed out of something that flies in the air and had pretty cool technology that these islanders couldn't even imagine in the first place. NOW THE REAL QUESTION IS: WHAT WOULD YOU THINK IF YOU WERE IN THEIR PLACE?
Well, it's obvious that I would have considered it the same way as these islanders did. That is, consider the soldiers as deities, gods, or even aliens.
Now with that story in mind, continue reading this.

According to Hindu sacred texts, the "Shiva Purana," which is one of the 18 Mahapuranas, contains stories and teachings about Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities in Hinduism. It is believed to have been composed between the 3rd and 5th centuries CE and talks about how Lord Shiva actually came to earth. He said to have emerged out of "Agni Linga," which is translated as "Agni - Fire," and " Linga- is an abstract or an iconic representation of the Hindu god Shiva in Shaivism"
As you can see in the picture below of the lingam, which also looks like a space ship, Now that it is said that the Lord Shiva emerged out of the Agni Lingam, there is a very good depiction of it in the idol's form, called "Lingothbhava," which is in the form of a person (here Lord Shiva) coming out of the Lingam as in the picture.

Now, from the information mentioned in the Shiva Purana, Shiva appeared first out of a burning lingam. That, as per our perception, is a burning space shuttle. Now, why is the space shuttle burning?

Consider an object approaching the earth's atomsphere from outer space. As soon as it gets into the atmosphere, the object falls under the influence of the gravitational pull, just like what will happen to a comet that's about to hit the earth—it catches fire.
Similarly, the lingam—the space shuttle must've caught fire while getting into the atmosphere.
It is said that Lord Shiva appeared first in India. Why in India?

If you look at the gravitational pull across the world, it's relatively low in the region where India is located geographically, and with the technology that they had, they were able to predict that and chose the Indian Subcontinent as their destination. Putting all of the assumptions together, it can be stated that Lord Shiva and the other gods travelled in a space shuttle, i.e., the lingam. happened to discover our planet that has life and wanted to explore it. They came here, landed, and came out of a burning space shuttle. With all the technological advances they had, we built temples that are highly impossible to build with today's technology. They shared their knowledge on everything, which was documented in the Sanathana Dharma scriptures. They told us how the universe works, what colour the planets are in the solar system, and may be they even had time travel capabilities as they were travelling through space, which was obvious to them. They went ahead of us and saw things. Instructed us on what to do and what not to do. The people of that time carefully documented everything in the name of vedas. They predicted the chaos that we'll be creating in the near future, which is the "Kali Yuga,", and how they'll be coming again to put a full stop to all that is happening now. May be our religion is nothing but ancient science. That pretty much solves the never-ending conflict between the science and religion. Just like the villagers of the Tanna thought the American soldiers who came from the sky were gods, we're looking up at these extraterrestrial beings as gods and praying for their comebacks.
I understand all this might be focused only on Sanathana dharma. That is because I haven't explored all the religions on the planet to make other assumptions. Maybe the gods of different religions are the space explorers of different universes or planets who happen to come into our lives to watch over us and guide us. We'll never know. So are we really praying to gods? or what? Let me know your comments :) I really appreciate you taking the time to come here and read everything.
