Disclaimer: The blog article is not a proper tutorial to help you create a website, but intended to tell you the importance of having a website, anyways the links to the tutorials are added at the end. The blog will give you a simplistic idea of website creation and what it takes to do it, and why you should do it.

I. Introduction

Personal website? Well, the myth is that only companies, businesses, freelancers, etc. are supposed to have websites, or, to put it simply, only the people who have something professional to do or showcase are supposed to have a website.

FACT: Well, anyone can (and actually should) have a website if they want to share their own thoughts and perspectives with the world. Now I understand that most people do it through social media.

II. Reasons to Own a Personal Website

Let me break it down simply for you:

The advantage of having your own website over depending on a platform to put content is that

#1: You don't have to worry about being monitored or getting addicted to the platform.

#2: You can live in a world where your thoughts, ideas, and identity are not being censored (getting out of fake freedom).

#3: The most underrated one is: to have good mental health away from the phony reality of social media.

I'm not going to bore you with the hazardous effects of social media. (Though if you anyways want to know, watch.) But I'll put it simply: having your own website is like plowing your own farmland and chilling like a landlord, whereas using social media is like plowing the land owned by the Lizard Man (Mark Zuck) as a slave peasant at the expense of your data, chat history, censorship, and mental health.

What can you do with a website? Well, your website can be a one-stop for everything you want the world to know about you. Let it be professional or personal. Even if you own a business website, it's cool to have a personal website. Let me remind you that you are not your job; it is simply a part of your life.

III. How to Set Up a Personal Website

You don't have to be certified or have a degree in computer science to build your own website. Well, there's no such thing as a computer science degree; it's just a skill set that you'd learn if you were interested. I myself am not a computer specialist or something, but I'll break down the process into kindergarten terms.

All you need to build a website ( consider your website like a plot of land you own)

#1: A domain name ( this is nothing but the name of your land; it can be yoyoyo.com or iamjaketheripper.xyz or anything else).

  • Now, where do I get this? There are multiple domain providers. like Epik, etc.

  • It'll barely cost you $1–3 per month if you choose a domain that no one else has chosen yet.

#2: A VPS (virtual private server)

  • As you have a domain name now (that is like having a name for your plot),

  • Now, for people to find your webpage (land), you need to host it on a server (for people to know the address of your land, to navigate to it).

  • This server can be your own if you own one, or else there are places on the internet where you can host your website.

  • Services like Vultr, etc., which would cost you around $3–4 per month and through which you can host multiple things, which is greatly rewarding,

  • I personally host my website on Wix. ( which is easier and also through which you can directly design your website without requiring any coding or IT skills lol)

#3: Well, that's almost it; if you chose to host it on a third-party server, you'll have to code the website, the skill set of a novice developer, you can code an entire website, which is not at all hard if you have time. Just do it simply with HTML and CSS, and you're good to go.

#4: HUGO is a really good option for creating a static website with 0$ cost. (tutorial added below)

You can use wiby.me - a search engine to discover simple personal web pages for samples.

IV. How are you helping the world

It is really bad that the people on the internet in this zoomer age are over-reliant on social media. People don't exist outside of these four (maybe more) media platforms.

The internet was designed to be a place where everyone could be independent on the internet as people, but right now we have a lot of internet peasants. Which defeats its purpose entirely.

To meet the needs (if there are any), you may want to have profiles on these useless social media sites, anyways use those through your laptop computers, as smart mobile phones are purely spying devices.

Don't miss the opportunity of ownership and freedom by having a personal website.
